"Field Notes in Various Climates"
Makoto Shinagawa
In Japan, We live with monsoons tell us every four seasons come and go.
And I, was born in NAGASAKI in the western end of Japan, have also grown
somewhat sensitive to behaviour of the wind.
After encountering a small but beautiful tropical imigrant butterfly
blown in by a Summer typhoon in my childhood,
and then learning to design and navigate some dinghies and offshore yachts,
I planned my private exhibition of "Nomad in the Wind" in July
1999.
The exhibition was consisted of 3 groups of my works like music.
The first group so called "Fragments" were esquisses studied
in various climates in the world.
The second named "Concertos" were collaborations with each natives.
and the third named "Etudes" was a proposal on the Communication
System
with the wind and the atmosphere always surrounding us.
